This study examined the important role of artificial intelligence in enhancing the competitive advantage of the higher education in Oman, with particular focus on improving academic quality and operational efficiency. The research was conducted across three public universities (Sultan Qaboos University, Dhofar University, and Rustaq College of Education) from 2020 to 2024. The main key findings revealed a significant increase in implementing AI systems recorded (from 5 to 25), improved student satisfaction was (65% to 92%), enhanced GPA scores (2.8 to 3.5), and 35% reduction in operational costs. The study also identified challenges including skilled workforce shortages and infrastructure limitations. Critical recommendations included establishing a national AI center, allocating 5% of university budgets for digital transformation, and fostering private sector partnerships all aligned with Oman Vision 2040's digital transformation and knowledge economy objectives.
